Volkswagen Unveils Cleanest TDI Engine Ever

Volkswagen has just unveiled the cleanest TDI engine ever. The 2.0 liter Common Rail diesel engine, used in a Jetta, uses a nitrogen oxide reservoir catalytic converter to reduce the levels of nitrogen oxide. New NOx reservoir catalytic converter technology is currently being tested for car models below the Passat class. Nitrogen oxide is absorbed like a sponge, leading to a high level of efficiency.

The diesel engine complies with Californian emission standards and is expected to go into production during 2008 in the United States where Volkswagen has already sold over 800,000 diesel cars. Volkswagen is also a part of the BLUETEC project along with Audi, DailmerChrysler and Jeep.
